Oklahoma State sophomores Gabby Hentemann and Taylor Roe, who both captured individual titles and contributed to a runner-up finish in the distance medley relay Feb. 26-27 at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Lubbock, Texas, join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championships being held March 15 in Stillwater, along with the Cowgirls also qualifying to compete in the DMR on March 12 at the Division 1 indoor final at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. Both student-athletes express gratitude to head coach Dave Smith, along with the support staff at Oklahoma State, for being able to host such a significant event during the most unique and unprecedented season of their careers. They also applaud Smith's tenacity and determination in making sure there was a season-ending meet on the calendar, along with sharing their pride for being able to train and compete on one of the most challenging cross country courses in the world. Hentemann revisits the 1,000-meter title won by freshman Sivan Auerbach, along with the mile crown captured by Roe and her 3,000 championship at the Big 12 indoor meet, and how she hopes that momentum will carry Oklahoma State in the national final. Roe emphasizes how beneficial it was for the Cowgirls to compete in February in cross country races at the Florida State Winter Classic, along with the Oklahoma State Winter Open, and how those performances not only helped strengthen their bid for an at-large berth to qualify for nationals, but also solidified their lineup. Hentemann reveals the impact of junior All-American Molly Born, who placed 16th at the 2019 NCAA Division 1 championship meet, returning to the Oklahoma State lineup following injury and how it has provided the Cowgirls with a strong top five that also includes Heidi Demeo. Roe explains the pride she carries in wearing the Oklahoma State kit and racing at home, with Hentemann refecting on the resiliency of her teammates to persevere through a pandemic to compete at both national championships.
