Oklahoma State graduates and former NCAA Division 1 champions Kaela Edwards, an adidas professional athlete, and Chad Noelle, representing ASICS, join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss their relationship this year as coach and athlete in Colorado, as Noelle has recently launched "Noelle Coaching" and Edwards prepares to make her outdoor debut this year Aug. 15 at the Music City Distance Carnival in Tennessee. Edwards revisits her second-place finish in the 800 meters Feb. 15 at the U.S. Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., and how much she feels like she has developed and improved under Noelle's guidance since then. Noelle reflects on his mentors throughout his running career, including Robb Munro, Andy Powell, Dave Smith, Robert Gary and Tom "Tinman" Schwartz, and how they have helped shape his coaching philosophy and outlook on training. He also speaks about his ability to construct coaching plans for athletes ranging from middle distance to the marathon to trail running, in addition to runners with backgrounds from recreational to elite to Masters competition. Edwards reveals how much better she feels about her running form, as well as her weight training under Noelle, and how those factors have contributed to her becoming a better all-around athlete. She also examines the possibility of having fellow female athletes to train with as Noelle expands his group of clients in the future. Noelle shares details regarding some of the more impressive workouts that Edwards has put together in recent months at 5,300 feet elevation, in addition to his level of optimism for her performances in the coming months in multiple elite domestic races. Edwards talks about her desire to not only lower her 800 personal best of 1:59.68, but also to significantly improve her 1,500-meter PR of 4:10.46 or mile PR of 4:28.75. Noelle provides a timeline on his return to competition from a sacrum stress reaction, looking to join Edwards in competing next year at the Olympic Trials. They both react to the recent announcement of the one-day Blue Oval Showcase and Grand Blue Mile, both scheduled for Aug. 29, and hosted by the Drake Relays. Noelle was the 2016 winner of the Grand Blue Mile, with both athletes securing multiple collegiate relay titles at Drake during their careers at Oklahoma State.
