Molly Born, a sixth-year student-athlete and All-American at Oklahoma State and a five-time qualifier at the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championships, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss competing Nov. 18 at the final at the Panorma Farms Course in Earlysville, Va. Born, who raced at the 2018 Division 1 championship meet in Wisconsin, is one of four female competitors from that final in Madison expected to participate in the women's race in Virginia, along with Grace Fetherstonhaugh of Oregon and Brigham Young teammates Aubrey Frentheway and Sadie Sargent. She reflects on enduring another injury after placing second Sept. 23 at the Cowboy Jamboree and the uncertainty surrounding whether Born would be able to return to the Oklahoma State lineup in time for the postseason. Born explains how significant it was to compete Oct. 28 at the Big 12 Conference Championships, finishing fifth at Iowa State and contributing to Oklahoma State placing second behind BYU by a 35-39 margin. She also shares how meaningful it was to be able to race Nov. 10 at home at the Greiner Family Course in Stillwater at the Division 1 Midwest Regional, producing another fifth-place finish that helped Oklahoma State prevail by a 30-75 margin against Iowa State. Born analyzes how valuable the experiences of competing at four previous NCAA cross country finals has been in her career and how she hopes that insight and perspective can produce another All-American performance, joining the 16th-place effort in 2019 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind. She speaks about the impact of sophomore teammate Billah Jepkirui, the Midwest Regional champion, in the Oklahoma State lineup, and her future potential in the sport. She revisits how emotional it was not to be able to race at last year's Division 1 championship meet in Stillwater, but highlights her pride for the Oklahoma State women's team placing fourth to earn the first podium finish in program history. Born expresses her gratitude for the patience and support of Oklahoma State coach Dave Smith, in addition to her teammates, throughout her career, and speaks about how significant it would be to help her team secure another podium finish, as well as her potential to earn All-America honors again in Virginia.
